Chapter 25 - My mother after custody

Diane left county custody older.

Not dramatically.

Four months ages people when they already believe they do not belong there.

She moved back to her condominium.

No access to my house.

No key.

No childcare.

No family emergency authority.

She continued therapy voluntarily after probation required sessions ended.

Ethan saw her.

Marjorie eventually saw her.

I saw her once every few months.

Public place.

No Lily.

People asked:

“Will you ever let her see her granddaughter?”

I stopped answering.

Access was not public referendum.

By year two, Diane had done many things correctly.

No boundary violation.

No surprise visit.

No letters sent directly to Lily.

No gifts through relatives.

No guilt messages.

No:

I’m her grandmother.

She asked once:

“Can I send a birthday card through you?”

I said:

“No.”

She closed her eyes.

Then:

“Okay.”

That was evidence too.

Not enough yet.

Evidence.
