Chapter 20 - My diversion

My case ended four months earlier.
Thirty hours community service.
Conflict-management program.
No new offense.
Dismissal.
No conviction.
I did not tell people:
“I beat the charge.”
I completed a diversion program because I slapped my mother after my daughter was already safe.
Specific.
The instructor asked us to write one sentence describing a future response to the same trigger.
Mine:
Remove Lily from danger, create distance, call for help, and let consequence travel through systems instead of my hands.
It sounded corporate.
Claire would have liked it.
I kept it on my phone.
Not because I expected another kennel.

Because anger is not creative.
It reuses itself.
