Chapter 18 - Felix learns what a custodian is

Felix’s therapist recommended a simple explanation.

Genevieve wanted to tell him:

“Your uncle is trying to take your inheritance.”

Absolutely not.

The court entered a temporary non-disparagement order around the children.

No litigation propaganda.

So Adrian and Genevieve, through counsel, agreed I could explain only basics when Felix asked me directly during a family visit.

He did.

“What’s a custodial account?”

“Money that belongs to you but an adult manages until you’re older.”

“Mom?”

“She managed yours.”

“Not anymore?”

“Temporarily, another company does.”

“Because court thinks she stole?”

I sighed.

“Because court is reviewing whether some spending was for you or for her.”

He stared.

“That means she used my money.”

“Some money was used for lawyers and consultants.”

“For what?”

“The family-control fight.”

“Did I ask?”

“No.”

His eyes filled.

Not because he understood $137,000.

Because he understood:

His name had been used again.

“Why does everyone keep doing stuff because of me?”

Primrose was sitting nearby.

She climbed onto the couch.

“Because adults are stupid.”

Felix laughed despite himself.

Then:

“Do I have to be heir?”

“No.”

“Good.”

“Do I have to work for Ravelle company?”

“No.”

“Can I work with horses?”

“Yes.”

“Can my money buy horse?”

“No.”

He groaned.

Primrose said:

“When you’re twenty-one.”

I looked at her.

“How do you know that?”

“Felix told me.”

Apparently the children had started their own legal research.

I took their tablets away for dinner.
