Chapter 19 - The mixed verdict

Belladonna was acquitted on the broadest fraud count tied to the unsigned security contract.

Why?

No contract executed.

No payment.

Jury found insufficient proof she had crossed from deceptive leverage into the charged completed financial offense.

She was convicted on:

Unlawful confinement-related counts concerning Eira.

Child-endangerment count tied to coercive food restriction/confinement.

False-communication offenses for fabricated threats.

Document-related offense involving copied authorization.

Mixed.

No kidnapping conviction.

No organized-crime conspiracy.

No attempted murder.

Then licensing consequences.

Separate.

Her use of investigators and simulated threats triggered private-security regulatory review.

Harlow’s license remained after findings he acted within disclosed client scope but should have verified authorization more carefully.

Miles Dane’s company received compliance warning/fine for inadequate authorization verification.

Atlas Sentinel was not sanctioned for Belladonna’s fabrication because Damian’s records showed he demanded independent assessment and had not executed contract.

Specific.

Then Belladonna looked at me after verdict.

Not angry.

Tired.

She mouthed:

“You still needed protection.”

Maybe.

May you like

That was what made her dangerous.

She could be wrong about what she was allowed to do while still being right that danger existed.
