Chapter 10 - The threats she created

The central secret was confirmed by payment records, contractor testimony, device logs, and Belladonna’s own messages.

The first two “enemy surveillance” incidents were fake.

Belladonna hired Harlow Investigative Services to photograph Eira from lawful public locations as an unauthorized security test.

Then she downloaded those photographs.

Created anonymous accounts.

Sent the images to herself.

Forwarded them to me as hostile threats.

The black SUV was also arranged.

Not to chase Eira.

Not to attempt kidnapping.

A contracted surveillance vehicle was instructed to remain visible near school pickup long enough for my security team to notice.

Belladonna’s message to Harlow:

Make the exposure obvious on second pass. They’re too complacent.

That was not a real enemy.

Then the ribbon package.

More serious.

Belladonna hired another contractor, Miles Dane, through a small “risk demonstration” company.

She told him:

Deliver a nonhazardous package to Costello Group reception.

No weapon.

No explosive.

No contact with Eira.

Inside:

A generic ribbon.

Belladonna wrote the message herself.

Protection is an illusion.

Dane believed it was part of an authorized executive-security penetration test.

He was shown an authorization bearing my digital signature.

The signature was genuine.

Copied from the broad household-security document.

I had never authorized threat simulations.

He cooperated once he learned that.

Then Belladonna’s objective.

She needed me to believe threat level had escalated beyond what Caleb’s team could handle.

Why?

Her messages to Damian:

Valerian won’t relocate Eira until he’s scared enough.

Damian:

Then he shouldn’t relocate her.

Belladonna:

You don’t understand him. He responds to proof.

Then Price Haven.

Belladonna wanted Eira moved to a fortified rural residence her LLC owned.

She wanted herself named emergency caregiver.

Atlas Sentinel would receive the security contract.

Her property company would receive the lease.

And if I were arrested, hospitalized, or otherwise unavailable, she wanted documents positioning her as the immediate adult controlling:

Residence.

School logistics.

Medical coordination.

Security decisions.

Could those papers bypass family court forever?

No.

Could they make her Eira’s mother?

No.

But in the first hours of an emergency, paperwork and physical possession matter.

She wanted to become the default.

Then why lock Eira in the dining room?

Belladonna’s private notes called it:

Protective compliance conditioning.

Goals:

Eira remains in designated room when directed.

Does not run toward doors.

Does not scream during security lockdown.

Accepts food on schedule.

Follows caregiver commands without asking for absent parent.

The last line made me sick.

Without asking for absent parent.

She was not only training Eira for danger.

She was training her to function under Belladonna without me.

Then money.

Three-year projected benefit connected to Belladonna/Price entities:

Price Haven rent above market potentially:

$198,000–$270,000 excess over three years depending valuation.

Atlas contract benefitted Damian’s company, though Damian denied knowledge of fabrication.

Belladonna herself would not receive Atlas profits directly.

The larger motive was control.

Her message to a friend:

If something ever happens to Valerian, every man around him will fight over Eira unless I am already the unquestioned adult in charge.

Friend:

Then ask him to name you guardian.

Belladonna:

He won’t until he believes he needs me.

There.

She created the need.

Then her most revealing message:

Fear gets through to him. Hunger gets through to her.

That sentence tied both halves together.

She manufactured threats to control me.

May you like

She manufactured deprivation to control Eira.

She believed fear was simply efficient.
