part 7

PART 7
Security removed Weston first.
Not gently.
Not brutally.
Efficiently.
That somehow humiliated him more.
He fought with words.
Threats.
Connections.
Lawsuits.
His father’s name.
His own company title.
None of it stopped the two security officers from taking him by the arms and moving him toward the hallway.
Ashley followed with one hand pressed against her belly, no longer looking at Weston.
At the doorway, Weston twisted back.
“You’ll regret this, Jade.”
Harrison’s voice followed him.
“No.”
“You will.”
The door closed.
For the first time since Weston entered, the room became quiet enough for the babies’ monitors to matter again.
Jade broke.
Not loudly.
Not dramatically.
She folded over the twins as much as her body allowed and cried into the light blue blankets.
Harrison moved to the side of the bed.
For a moment, he did not touch her.
He seemed afraid she might reject him.
After three years of distance, he had the humility to wait.
Jade lifted one hand toward him.
He took it immediately.
“I’m sorry,” she whispered.
“No.”
His voice was rough.
“I am.”
She shook her head.
“I should have called sooner.”
“I should have made it easier for you to call.”
That broke her again.
Because underneath all her pride, she had carried the fear that he would say I told you so.
He did not.
He kissed her knuckles like she was still the sixteen-year-old girl he had raised after the funeral of her parents.
The doctor stepped closer.
“Miss Whitmore, the twins are stable for now.”
Jade looked down at them.
“Noah and Owen.”
Harrison’s face softened.
“What?”
“Their names.”
“Noah Harrison Vale.”
“Owen Daniel Vale.”
His eyes filled when he heard his name.
Then his expression hardened at the last name.
Jade noticed.
“Not for long,” she whispered.
Her attorney, Elise Monroe, stepped forward.
“We can address legal name protections after medical priorities.”
Jade nodded.
Then she looked toward the closed door.
“What happens now?”
Elise answered.
“Now we secure you.”
“Him.”
“The babies.”
“Hospital access.”
“Legal filings.”
“Financial records.”
Harrison looked at Elise.
“And investigate the timing of those divorce papers.”
Elise nodded.
“Already starting.”
Jade wiped her face.
“There’s more.”
Everyone turned to her.
She swallowed.
“Weston wanted me to sign a trust release last month.”
Harrison went still.
“What trust release?”
“The one tied to my father’s shares.”
Elise’s face changed.
Harrison’s hand tightened around the bed rail.
The divorce papers were not the beginning.

They were the final move.
