Chapter 20 - My diversion ends

My case ended two months later.
I completed the required class.
Community service at a food-distribution nonprofit.
No new offense.
Dismissed.
Victoria complained:
“Arthur has a conviction and you don’t.”
I said:
“Different charging decisions. Different conduct. Different resolutions.”
She wanted symmetry.
Families love symmetry when consequences feel unfair.
But my kick had also been serious.
I did not minimize.
The conflict class changed one thing I used constantly.
Before reacting, identify the goal.
Not the feeling.
Goal at party after Gigi was in my arms:
Leave.
Instead my anger added:
Make Victoria feel what it is like to be powerless.
That part was mine.
Months later, at a family mediation, Victoria said something vicious.
“You are teaching Gigi that cutting people off is love.”
My body surged.
Old Clara would have shouted.
New question:
Goal?
Protect boundary.
I answered:
“I am teaching her that access is not automatic after someone refuses to protect her.”
Then stopped.
No kick.
No scene.
Same anger.
May you like
Better method.
That was progress.
