Chapter 14 - THE BODYGUARD WHO ALMOST MOVED
Anthony Russo admitted something in the internal review.
He almost obeyed Vittorio.
Not because he believed the order lawful.
Habit.
Vittorio raised his hand.
Anthony’s body shifted.
Half step.
Then Caleb stepped behind me.
Anthony stopped.
He later told investigators:
“For fifteen years, when Mr. Vittorio raised his hand, we moved.”
“You knew Matteo was current principal?”
“Yes.”
“Then why?”
“Conditioning.”
That word interested me.
Not only children learn obedience through repetition.
Adults do.
Security retraining followed.
Clear visual command structure.
Former principals identified as protected persons, not command principals.
Any conflict involving a minor:
Current guardian safety overrides ceremonial family instruction.
No physical removal of a child based solely on relative status.
